Julie Chambers

Julie Chambers fell in love with story telling and producing, as a child, putting on plays in her backyard, charging a quarter from the neighbor children to attend. She made her way through college acting, writing, and dreaming of opening her own theater company one day. After working in television for a season she went back to graduate from Cal State University in Northridge with a bachelor’s degree in theater and business.

Then while raising two children, Julie continued to take writing classes. She had several children’s books published by HarperCollins, when she started writing longer form, screenplays and specs for television.

She went on to have a career in writing for the screen, had a movie produced by Showtime and wrote many freelance pilots and episodes for both primetime and cable, most notably co-writing a Writer’s Guild nominated episode of The Simpsons. One highlight for her was working with Mel Brooks on an animated series. She went into teaching, combining her two favorite things… writing and inspiring people. She teaches currently for both UCLA Graduate and Undergraduate Programs in Film and TV, and Syracuse University in Los Angeles. She continues to have different projects in development and works as a script consultant. She has written and produced a webseries, and recently contributed two chapters for Inside the Room a book published by Gotham/Penguin on writing for TV. She absolutely enjoys combining her love of story and the craft of writing with teaching. After all, we each are uniquely qualified to be us, the trick is capturing some of that on paper in an identifiable and interesting way.
